    The book is a readable summary of Christian/Catholic history mainly aimed at the general reader, so it understandably lacks depth. The fairly obvious bias towards Catholicism is also pardonable (note the lack of criticism regarding the Inqusition, Crusades and Reconquista), but what is not so easily excusable is the author’s characterisation of muslims as pagans and ‘the gravest threat /5(). The online NewAdvent Catholic Encyclopedia is wonderful also. This book pales in comparison to Episodes of Catholic history book Wikipedia or NewAdvent.

The online NewAdvent Catholic Encyclopedia, although it has a ish print date it is very authoritative as a reference within the Catholic Church. The OSV Encyclopedia of Catholic History is not authoritative, nothing /5(4).
